Working Out in Scottsdale

I love working out and I love being on vacation, so it only makes sense that I love working out while on vacation.  To me, vacation is all about checking out new cities and being away from “normal” life.  When I was in Arizona, I was able to get in a few workouts.  Working out in Scottsdale made my spring break trip all the more fun!

Justin took me to his CrossFit box: Camelback CrossFit.

One word?  AWESOME!  The box was super clean which I didn’t even think was possible for a box.  It’s fairly new, so all of their equipment is in excellent condition.  Justin and I attended a midday class which meant it wasn’t very crowded.  The owners / coaches were clearly incredibly knowledgeable and safety was their top concern.  Since I’m not a CrossFit regular, they helped me make modifications and provided assistance when necessary.  Even being a newbie, I instantly got the community feel from this box.  People were supportive no matter what their fitness level was.  During the workout, the handstand push-ups were obviously my favorite.  And the wall balls sucked.  End of story.

PS: If you’re in Scottsdale, you should definitely check out Camelback CrossFit.  New members can take a class for free!

Dana took me to her gym for a hot yoga class.

I always think it’s fun to take classes from various instructors, and this one was great. It was a tough workout that included lots of chaturangas and upper body work.  I told Dana to strike a pose for a photo, and she rocked a strong headstand:

One day while William was napping, I decided to go for a quick jog.  And by quick I mean short. 😉  I busted out one mile. At the beginning, I glanced down at my watch to check my pace.  I made it my goal to beat nine-minutes since I was just running one.

Missed it by three seconds! Argh!  It still felt good to run though!

So those were all my formal workouts, but I did take William on a few walks and Justin and I went to the park one day to play.  And by play, I mean me and Justin.

I tried out crow…

But Justin did it way better!

So strong!

Handstands and cartwheels are more my style…

The Afternoon Run That Turned Out Ok

Itz no secret around here that I love my morning workouts.  Sure, sometimes getting out of bed is difficult, but in the end itz always worth it.

Yesterday morning I woke up, and got dressed to run.  My body was feeling a bit sore from Saturday’s 9-miler and Sunday’s bootcamp, but I needed to get some miles in.  I was really not feeling the run, it was chilly out, and I was tired.  Excuses, excuses, excuses.  I went out, ran a mile, and then decided I would do a longer run after school.  For what seemed like once in forever, I had no plans directly after school, so this was actually a possibility.

As the day went on, the fact that I was going to run after school stayed in the back of my mind.  I knew I didn’t “have” to, especially since I had already run a mile in the morning (to continue my streak!), but I knew I should and I knew I’d be happy after.  I packed a bag of running clothes to change into at school, so I really had no excuses.  I drove to the park, got myself set to go, and took a second to appreciate the view.

It wasn’t the easiest, fastest, or prettiest four miles, but I got it done and enjoyed the beautiful lake, sunset, and perfect 75-degree weather in the process.

When I finished, I took a few minutes to live in the moment, stretch, and take in my surroundings.  I was relaxed.  I was happy.  I couldn’t ask for anything more.

A true j’adore la vie moment, for sure.

Messy Morning

Good morning!  My weekend is off to a great start.  Last night, we met one of Jonny’s longtime friends and her husband at Latitude 26.  Latitude 26 holds a special place in our hearts because it is where we had our unforgettable rehearsal dinner for our wedding (more on this later).  It is a Tex-Mex restaurant with food that always leaves us satisfied, no matter what we order (and we’ve tried just about everything!).  Usually, we scarf down waaay too many baskets of chips, especially at Latitude because their salsa and guacamole is so tasty.  I was quite impressed with our limit of 2 baskets of chips split between 4 people.  That is control!

I woke up with a slight headache and a stomach ache.  Nothing unbearable, just uncomfortable.  I attributed it to the red wine and Mexican food from last night.  After a bland breakfast of toasted whole wheat bread with peanut butter and a G2, I was feeling much better.  (G2 is my go-to when feeling dehydrated!)  Well, Zoey’s tummy was not feeling so hot either apparently.

Snuggle session from last night.

Zoey is so shaggy right now and she is definitely overdue for a haircut!  I let her outside to go potty after her own breakfast and noticed her belly must have been a little upset, also.  Except her tummy ache required wiping and a bath.  Not pretty.  Not fun.  I will spare you the details.  You’re welcome.

It is another beautiful day in St. Louis!  The temperature is about 45 degrees currently and it is so sunny out.  Perfect day to go to the park and get some exercise!  I met my longtime friend, Danielle, at a local park.  We walked about 4 miles in just over an hour and had great conversation along the way catching up on life.

The sites are nice, even in January when the trees are bare, because there is a lake in the middle of the park.  The water was calm and it was nice to see tons of people absorbing the fresh air and sunshine.  We couldn’t have better weekend weather.  I’m lovin’ it!

Now I’m off to a long overdue hair appointment for myself and then a good friend’s housewarming party this evening!  I hope you get to enjoy some nice weather this weekend, too!
