Foodie Pen Pals: November

Itz the last day in November, so you know what that means, right?  Come on, y’all!  Itz Foodie Pen Pal Reveal Day!!!  This month I sent a package to Rene who blogs at Adventures in Running.  Click on over to her place to see what I sent.  Laura, from Laura’s Plate, put together my box this month.  She’s from Ohio, and most of the items she sent were from a local company called A Bushel & A Peck.  From what I’ve tasted, they have many tasty treats!  Like these:

The whole wheat raspberry bars taste like raspberry fig newtons, only better.  I really like anything raspberry, and these did not disappoint.  Ginger snaps are not a food I would typically buy.  However, after opening the bag, I was pleasantly surprised.  Jonny’s a fan, too!  More of the goods:

I haven’t had a chance to open the sesame sticks or the honey mustard pretzel pieces yet, but I’m quite certain the pretzel pieces won’t last long.  Obviously, I opened the chocolate peanut butter right when I saw it.  Itz amazing.  You know the chocolatey-peanut-buttery taste of a Reese’s?  Yeah, that’s what this tastes like.  I’ll most likely eat the majority of the contents with a spoon.

The jar of salsa has already been consumed.  Laura sent a recipe for super easy crockpot chicken that uses the salsa, and I based my dinner last night from that.  Into the crockpot I threw chicken, pinto beans, quinoa, the jar of salsa, tons of veggies, and chicken broth.  It came out great (as my Instagram followers saw), and I’ll be enjoying it for lunch today, too.  Thanks, Laura!

The Lean Green Bean

Lindsay from The Lean Green Bean gets a huge shout out today.  She’s the mastermind behind Foodie Pen Pals, and has come up with a genius plan for December.  Instead of running the regular Foodie Pen Pal program, she is asking people to donate money they normally would have spent on FPP to a fund she’s setting up to help victims of Hurricane Sandy.  Here’s Lindsay’s logic behind this:

  • “You guys, we have the power to make a huge difference here. Think about it. On average, there are about 1,000 participants per month. If we all donate the $15 we would have spent, that’s $15,000 right there. That’s HUGE. Let’s make a difference!”

AMAZING!  You know I’m already signed up as I would have signed up for FPP anyway.  May as well put that money towards a good cause! CLICK HERE to learn more, sign up, and make a difference!  Use the hashtag #FPP4Sandy to spread the word on Twitter.

Being Friday, today is also High Five Friday with A Dash of Meg.

Lindsay gets the high-five today.  She constantly wants to help people, whether itz her readers, other bloggers, victims of Hurricane Sandy, or people she helps during her dietetic internship as she becomes an RD.  On top of it all, Lindsay created the Elf for Health ChallengeWhat is #Elf4Health?

  • “This is a six week challenge that will run from the Monday after Thanksgiving through the first week in January. There are daily tasks, daily winners, prizes, weekly newsletters, and a Facebook group for support.
  • Dates: Monday, November 26th – January 6th All participants will receive an elf. In return, all participants will be that person’s elf in return! If you missed the initial sign up deadline: You can still enter for Rounds 2 and 3. See the details & sign up form below! Anyone can participate. It doesn’t matter no matter where you’re located! All you need is access to the internet and an email address. It also doesn’t cost anything. (We know you have plenty of gifts to buy this holiday season!)” source

Guess who I’m paired with for the first round of #elf4health?  Lindsay!  As a Twitter follower commented, “That’s like getting a present directly from Santa and not his elf!”  Haha, right?  Lindsay’s been amazing, and I’ve gotten to know her better through our daily e-mails!  No worries though, there’s still time to sign up for rounds 2 and 3.  And the prizes just keep getting better and better… Sign up here!

Do you participate in Foodie Pen Pals?  How about Elf for Health?

REBOOT me, please!

Today after work I’m heading to San Francisco for the Nike Women’s Half Marathon!  I’ve never traveled a far distance to a race before, and I’m a bit nervous, to be honest.  Itz been a year since my last (seventh) half-marathon, and now I’ll be racing and traveling quite far in a short weekend.  Luckily, I’ve partnered up with REBOOTizer to help me get through and do my best this weekend!

What is REBOOTizer?  ”REBOOTizer is a supplement developed to promote Oxidative Stress Relief by helping the body neutralize free radicals and toxins more effectively.”  I first learned of REBOOTizer when I was in Boston, and received a packet in my HLS12 Swag Bag.  I tried it out after traveling, and a long weekend of going out and indulging in food and drink.  I believe it helped me bounce back to my normal self again.

Recommended Use:

  • Before or after exercise and sports
  • After excess food or drink indulgence
  • When exposed to smoke
  • When traveling, especially by air
  • After exposure to the sun

The REBOOTizer multi-action helps by:

  • Neutralizing free radicals into inert molecules.
  • Boosting body’s antioxidant production.
  • Assisting liver function to detox.
  • Boosting performance and recovery.
  • Providing cell production.

All the aforementioned information can be found on the REBOOTizer website.  Itz really easy and fun to take, too.  You just squeeze, shake, and drink!

It has a tea flavored taste and is only about a half of a cup to drink.  I plan on drinking one today, one tomorrow, Sunday, and Monday since I will be traveling and exercising.  I’ll probably continue the regime throughout the week since I’m running the Runner’s World Half Marathon the following weekend.  I’ll need all the help I can get to REBOOT my body for these two half marathons a week apart!

Since itz Friday, let’s hand out some high-fives for High Five Friday with A Dash of Meg!

I’m going to give early high-fives to a few of my other FitFluential Ambassadors who will be representing Team Yurbuds with me this weekend in San Francisco.

  • Kelly at Cupcake Kelly’s who I met and loved in Boston at HLS!
  • Kristen at STUFT Mama - a rockstar mama who the cutest twin boys ever!
  • Brian at Pavement Runner who has been our go-to guy with all types of questions and has organized an FFA dinner for Saturday night!  He has also been posting sneak peaks of the upcoming weekend!

I can’t wait to meet you all [again] and many more tomorrow!  I’m also super pumped because my best friend lives in San Francisco who I’ll be staying with.  I haven’t seen her in forever, so this weekend is long overdue!

What are your plans for this weekend?  Any travel plans?  Any races?

Note: REBOOTizer compensated me for this compaign.  All thoughts and opinions are my own.

My Momma’s Birthday

Today is a very special day.  Itz Friday (yay!), but itz also my momma’s birthday.  And if you’ve ever met my momma, you know what an amazing lady she is.  Not only is she a mom, grandma (aka “Yaya”), daughter, sister, wife, friend, but she is also an artist, cook, baker, seamstress, and athlete (she competed in – and won! – three bodybuilding shows right before she turned 50!).  Seriously, she does it all, and she does it all extremely well, with no complaints, and always strives to do more.

Itz my mom who I go to for advice, to share my accomplishments, to ask questions, and to just say hi.  Itz my mom who molded me into the lady I am today with strong values, good morals, and a passion for living life.

Itz my mom who supports me in anything and everything I do – no matter how challenging or how miniscule the task.  I can count on her for when I’m scared or happy or need a shoulder or an ear.  Itz my mom who has watched my countless sporting events ever since I was young to my many races in the more recent years.

Rock N Roll Half Marathon – October 2011

Itz my mom who married my dad and together they created our unbelievable family, been incredible role models, and the most loving parents a child could ever ask for.

Itz my mom who I love with all my heart, admire, and aspire to be like.  Itz my mom who I wish a very happy birthday to today.

And because this is a healthy living, food, & fitness blog, let’s have some High Five Friday action with A Dash of Meg.

Yesterday, I busted out a 7-mile run after school.  It was another afternoon run that turned out ok.  Seven miles in an hour and three minutes = 9:00 minute/mile pace.  Got to keep up that half-marathon training.  Afterall, I’m sure my momma is proud!

I’m a… Lion?

My training for the Runner’s World Half Marathon is going great, thanks for asking! High five for me in celebration of Meg’s High Five Friday.

Really though, I am happy with my progress and consistency so far.  My biggest fear has been my knees as last October I experienced immense knee pain which made me want to quit both the half marathons I ran.  (I didn’t quit!  I finished one race in 2:05:15 and the other in 2:03:28.)

My knees have held up pretty well, and I think a large part is due to consistent training, foam rolling, and stretching.  However, occasionally they still act up, and during my last race my hip was hurting, too.  I finally decided to take my friend’s advice in visiting a recommended chiropractor who uses active release techniques in his practice, treats professional athletes, has a lot of experience with runners, and specializes in athletic injuries.

I had my initial consultation on Wednesday.  He performed some preliminary assessments and watched me run.  After watching me run, he discussed what he saw.  He told me that most distance runners run like gazelles with their long strides.  Then, he informed me that I did not.  Ha.  Seriously, I had to keep from laughing.  I would never compare myself to a gazelle or any other graceful, speedy animal.  Clearly, I went straight to Pinterest to find some funny picture or quote that had to do with running and gazelles.  This is what I found:

“Every morning in Africa a gazelle wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the fastest lion or it will be killed. Every morning a lion wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the slowest gazelle or it will starve to death. It doesn’t matter whether you are a lion or a gazelle when the sun comes up, you had better be running.” (source)

Basically what the doctor explained was that I take much shorter strides.  Instead of taking nice long, stretched out strides, my strides are short which causes me to lift my legs up more, in turn putting more strain on my knees.  Plus, my hamstrings and hips are pretty tight and that is also making the other muscles not function as efficiently as they should.  Everything in that area is a little out of whack; nothing serious, but I hope to have it fixed sooner than later.  In the interim, I’ll keep stretching, foam rolling, and loving on my foam roller (because that’s not weird…).

The doctor affirmed I’m not a gazelle, so I guess that makes me a lion?  I’m off for my morning run… you know, so I don’t starve.

Lion or gazelle?  Lion actually does make a lot more sense for me since I’m a Leo.  What’s your sign?  What animal would you compare yourself to?

I got beat up by the sidewalk then locked out of my house

Blog title sounds awesome, eh?  Well itz been an awesome last two mornings of runs.  So Wednesday, I headed out of my house at 5:30 a.m. to get my miles in.  It was pitch black, but recently that’s just how it’s been since fall is nearing.  I run in my neighborhood all.the.time. and my neighborhood is not well lit.  Itz never been a problem… until Wednesday.  Literally one minute into my run, I tripped, failed to catch myself, and landed kersplat on the concrete.

It took me a minute to get up, and assess the situation.  My whole body was hurting, but I quickly realized I did not have any serious injuries (thank goodness!).  Multiple places on my body (wrists, hands, elbow, knee, hip, shoulder) were stinging, and I couldn’t see anything, so I turned around and walked home to assess the damage.

A bunch of scrapes and cuts and bruises, but no broken bones or twisted ankles.  Whew!  I ended up just running a mile on the treadmill in the basement after that.  Didn’t want to take any more chances.  Two days later and my battle wounds are healing.

Well, kind of healing.  Itz a start, I suppose.  I have never fallen while running before.  Sure, I’ve tripped, but I’ve always caught myself and never hit the ground.  The fall was a rude awakening.  So yesterday I decided to get smart and take my phone to use as a flashlight.  All was well; I covered five miles (for my 109th consecutive day running!), and headed to the driveway to unlock my front door.  I pulled out my keys and found…

My car key!  Not my house keys!  The two are usually attached, but when I run I separate them, so there is not as much to carry.  Obviously I grabbed the wrong part yesterday.  Enter freak out mode: itz 6:30 in the morning, Jonny is at work 30 minutes away, all our doors are locked, we don’t keep an extra key under the mat, and I need to be showered and at school shortly after.  Long story short, I texted my father-in-law who came to my rescue.  (Thank you, Jack!!)

How about this week YOU give ME a high-five for surviving my two running mishaps?

High Five Friday with A Dash of Meg

I know it could have been worse, much worse, and I am very lucky, but holy moly.I’m still in disbelief over my last two runs.  Like I said, I’ve never fallen while running before.  I’ve also never locked myself out of the house.  Here’s to staying on two feet, having the right keys, and no more disasters!

Have you ever fallen while running?  Have you ever locked yourself out?

New Shoes

The other day Mama Pea posted a recipe titled, “Healthy Monkey Bread.”  I’m not kidding you when I say I thought about it all day long, and drove to Trader Joe’s after school to pick up a package of their whole wheat dough, so I could make a batch.

Best.decision.ever.  The recipe was ridiculously easy to make.  Surprisingly, Jonny had never even heard of monkey bread before!  (What??)  I was happy to introduce him.  Sure, there is still some butter and sugar in this recipe, but this is totally worth the indulgence.  And indulgence is a good thing – in moderation; deprivation is not a good thing – ever.  Rest assured, there was NO deprivation going on here last night…

Itz better than using your tongue, right?  I actually asked Jonny while we were eating one a few of the dough balls, “Couldn’t you just finish the whole pan tonight?”  To which he replied, “Obviously.”  And obviously, we did not finish the whole pan because that would not have been moderation.  Moderation is key.

I had a nice little jog yesterday morning.

I had a hard time getting myself out the door, but convinced myself by saying I only “had” to run three.  My goal was to cover five miles, and once I got going it was no problem.  High-five for Linz!

Thanks, Meg, for letting me brag on myself during today’s High Five Friday.  I’m still pretty pumped about the 10K race I ran on Labor Day.  #runnershigh

I’ve been in need of new running shoes.  My last pair I bought were the Mizuno Wave Rider 14′s.  It was probably over a year ago.  Since I hadn’t been running consistently, I went out and bought a pair of Asics (pictured above) to workout in.

Honestly, I bought the Asics because I needed a new pair of workout shoes.  I found them, they were comfortable, I liked the colors, and they were a good price.  However, once I decided to start running a little more seriously, I knew I was in need of a new pair of good running shoes.  I went to the place I always go for new running shoes: Missouri Running Company.  I got a kick out of this little guy in the store:

Mo Run Co. has the best service ever.  The man who helped me looked at my old shoes, watched me walk and run, and listened to what I was looking for and my thoughts on my old shoes.  I loved my Mizuno Wave Rider’s, but I did tell him about my recent knee pain, and knew it could be due to the fact that my shoes were old.  I also have really high arches, so I need pretty supportive shoes.  He suggested the following three pairs: the new Mizuno Wave Rider 15, a pair of Brooks PureFlow, and a pair of Saucony’s (can’t remember which one).

I tested out each pair by running up and down the sidewalk outside the store.  Each pair was extremely light, comfortable, and supportive, but ultimately I decided on the Brooks.

I could feel the most arch support in the Brooks, which I like.  The website states, “With a wider Nav Band coming up the lateral side and grabbing the midsole, the foot receives arch support without the bulkiness of underfoot materials. A center strike pod provides guidance in finding the natural landing zone, and modern air mesh wraps the foot for an incredibly comfortable fit.” (source)  Can’t wait to try them out!

What’s your favorite shoe?

Foodie Penpals: August

The last day of my birthday month is already upon us!  Where oh where has the time gone?  The last day of the month means itz Foodie Penpals Reveal Day over at The Lean Green Bean!

The Lean Green Bean

Make sure you click on the button to take a looksie at all the goodies that were sent and received across the country (and Canada! and the UK!).  This month I sent a box to Di at The Life of Di, so head on over to her blog to find out about her loot!  Kristina, a reader who lives near Boston and is training for the NYC marathon (!!!) sent me a wonderful box.  I told her I loved receiving local foods, and I’m not real picky as I like to try it all.  Well, she picked out some local fare and it certainly did not disappoint!

I can’t wait to use the Wild Maine Blueberry spread (the jar claims to be “wicked good!”) and have so many ideas for it already.  Pancakes, oatmeal, sandwiches, oh the possibilities are endless!  The applesauce is made from New England McIntosh Apples which has a wonderful taste.  The honey is absolutely perfect because I have been in need of more honey, but haven’t gotten any yet.  Now I have a whole pound!

Kettle Corn?  Pretty sure Jonny and I had no problem polishing this off in way less time than we should have!  It was good and we enjoyed the sweet treat.  Thanks, Kristina!  Best of luck in the NYC Marathon!

All the details for Foodie Penpals can be found HERE.  Itz open to readers and bloggers alike, and I would highly encourage you to get involved.  Itz super simple – you get paired up with someone random (from your country), have a $15 spending limit, send them goodies, and receive an awesome box from someone else!  CLICK HERE to fill out a brief form to sign up.  And now because itz Friday, let’s do some High Five Friday action with A Dash of Meg!

High Five Friday with A Dash of Meg

There is one person and one person only who most definitely deserves today’s high-five. This person is not only a dear friend to me, but an unbelievable athlete, and an inspiring blogger, fitness instructor, and woman.

Annette of Enjoy Your Healthy Life just completed her first HALF IRONMAN!  Not only that, she did it all (70.3 miles!) in less than seven hours!  Read her full recap HERE.  Annette, you never cease to amaze me, and this is no different.  You are [in your own words] thebombdotcom.  xoxo  Now move back to St. Louis? ;) #wishfulthinking

Do you know anyone who has ever done an Ironman – half or full?  What’s the longest distance you’ve swam/biked/run?  Mine is 13.1 miles during the seven half-marathons I’ve run – I can’t imagine running a half after swimming and biking crazy distances, too!

A bagpipe, a birthday, and a judgement-free summer

Lots of great ideas for kids snacks from yesterday’s Banana Bar.  Thanks and keep the suggestions coming!  My day was a bit slow to get started yesterday due to my late night out, but eventually I got rolling and got a lot accomplished.  A workout was not one of them, though by evening time I was itching to get moving.  The weather was 90 degrees, but it definitely didn’t feel like it since there was such a strong breeze.  My friend and I met at a park to walk the four mile loop.  Before she got there, I noticed a man playing a bagpipe by the lake.

At first I was like what in the world?  But I ended up sitting down to enjoy the weather, the scenery, and eventually, the music.  It got me thinking about how fast I judged the situation.  Just because it was different, I considered it “weird.”  It wasn’t until I listened to the music for awhile that I began to appreciate the talent this random man had and his freedom of playing to the lake and the serenity that surrounded him.  It was a beautiful night out and I loved just being there.

As an educator, I work so hard to teach my students the importance of acceptance and to encourage them not to judge one another.  Sometimes it’s hard to reflect on your own actions and practice what you preach.  I’m trying.

Anyway, enough of me trying to be all philosophical – it was just how I was feeling!  Let’s lighten the mood a bit by participating in some High Five Friday with the Megster.

As you know by now, High Five Friday is to recognize and celebrate various successes.  It is only appropriate that today’s High Five Friday gets dedicated to my amazing students.  They are so ready for fourth grade and I am incredibly proud of their work from this past year.  Each of them have grown and made tremendous progress.  While I do look forward for summer vacation, I know that a part of me will miss seeing their smiling faces every morning.  Luckily, I will be teaching summer school, so I will get to see some of them for a few weeks this summer.

Now let’s talk workout.  The girl I worked out with at the gym the other week asked me to workout together again because she found some new moves to try.  Again, I was more than willing to have a gym buddy!  I got up early, made it to the gym, and started some cardio while waiting.  After fifteen minutes of her not showing up, I decided to start lifting weights.  I hadn’t made a plan because I was anticipating following her routine, so my workout was pretty hodgepodge.  Bicep curls, tricep extension, one legged barbell squat, calf raises, back row, chest press, abductor and adductor machine.  I wasn’t totally feeling it, so after those exercises I called it quits.  Proves to me that I really am a fan of planning my workouts.

Instead of being angry or irritated that my gym buddy didn’t show, I had feelings of hoping everything was ok with her because she usually is at the gym so early.  Everything happens for a reason because when I got my belongings, my other friend had texted me saying she was up early and wanted to go walking.  Score!  My workout continues!

The rest of today’s plans include going to lunch with my lovely grandmother, Mama, who happens to be turning 79 today, though you’d never believe it!

Me & Mama at my cousin’s wedding in Florida 2009.

Happy birthday, Mama!  Mama is a perfect example of someone who never judges anyone or anything, so I definitely aspire to possess this quality of hers (and many more!).  Now I’m off to enjoy the beginning of my summer vacation – judgement free.

What do you do when you find yourself making judgements?

Ahhs Cream

Lots of love for cake batter protein powder, eh?  Love it!  Speaking of cake batter, my sister called me last night and told me she and the kids were going to stop by.  Since it was so nice out, I suggested walking to a local fro-yo joint.

No, no we didn’t party it up at fro-yo with the kids.  That photo is from the night we went out for Steph’s 30th.  We did walk the mile to and from fro-yo with kids in tote.  It was an absolute perfect night for walking, seesterly bonding, and obviously fro-yo.

Clearly I went with cake batter!  I also had the sea salt caramel and blackberry flavors.  Blackberry was delicious and I had to have a bite of the caramel for this girl.  I put just one hunk of cookie dough in there and Jacob asked me if he could have it.  I was a mean auntie and said “no.”  My sister was laughing as I was more than willing to share any and all of my flavors… just not the one piece of cookie dough I got!  Come on, kid!  :)

Jacob always pronounces ice cream like “ahhs cream.”  It sounds like he has a Southern accent or something.  We have no idea where it came from, but it cracks us up and we ask him a hundred questions just so we can hear “ahhs cream” again and again.

On our walk back home, we passed a huge patch of grass when the sun was just beginning to set.  Jacob and Stephanie loves jumping and jumping pictures as much as I do, so we naturally had to stop for some fun.

Steph is getting much better at the jumping pictures.  (We have worked hard on this!)  She gets a high five.  Good thing that today is Friday (YAY!) so let’s do some more High Five Friday with Megs!

My friend Diana is participating in the run portion of a triathlon relay this weekend.  She gets an early high five because I know she’ll rock it!  Earlier this week we went on a run together.  I still have not been running consistently like I used to – just a little here and there.  However, since I have been working out I was confident I’d be able to handle the four miles Diana had planned for us.  Our goal is always to keep a 10-minute mile pace.  In races, I naturally run faster and I try not to obsess about time too much because then it just becomes a mind game which is not fun.  We cut it close…

But we made it!  We were literally sprinting at the end to beat 40 minutes.  It was fun to run again, especially with a partner.  This run made me feel very good because I am running a 5k tomorrow morning for the Asthma and Allergy Foundation.  I’m hoping to beat 30 minutes, but I’m not sure if that will happen.  We shall see.

Oh and by the way – I know I promised a Ruckus Run recap, and I’ll still give it to you eventually, but my darling sister still has not given me a CD with all 263 pictures on it.  <Cough cough, Steph>  For now, you can read my pre-race morning post or you can look at some of the awesome pictures on Stephanie’s blog here.  You know we just had to take jumping pictures when we were all muddy…

What are you proud of today?  If you’re a runner, what’s your pace?

Teacher Appreciation Week

Just finished a lovely lower body workout.  I did super (or triple) sets of exercises with jumping rope for a minute in between.  (I love that active rest!) Check it out:

Lower Body Jump Rope Superset Workout

  • *Tripleset – Squat on Smith Machine: 70 pounds, 15 reps
  • *Tripleset – Calf Raise on Smith Machine: 70 pounds, 20 reps
  • *Tripleset - Plie Squat on Smith Machine: 70 pounds, 15 reps
  • ~Superset – Lunge with Barbell: 40 pounds, 30 reps
  • ~Superset – Deadlift: 40 pounds, 15 reps
  • *Superset – Hamstring Curl with Stability Ball: 15 reps
  • *Superset – Alternating Supermans: 30 reps
  • ~Superset – Hanging Leg/Knee Lift: 15 reps
  • ~Superset – Back extensions: 10 pounds, 15 reps

So in between each superset, I jumped rope for 1 minute.  For example, I did the squat, calf raise, plie squat, then jumped rope for 1 minute.  I repeated until I completed 3 sets of each exercise.  Tomorrow I will lift uppper body.

This past week was Teacher Appreciation.  On Tuesday, our PTO hosted a wonderful luncheon for our school staff which I captured in the last WIAW.  We really are so lucky and grateful for our PTO as they truly have students’ best interest at heart.  They are incredibly supportive of us and constantly do little things to show their gratitude.  Within the luncheon, they had this token of appreciation:

“Thanks for helping our children grow; please take a rose as you go.”  And they had a huge vase of roses displayed for us each to grab one on our way out.  So sweet!  This week’s High Five Friday is dedicated to teachers.  (Even though Meg is not hosting HFF this week since she is on her tropical vacation and road trip, I’m still participating!  But I’m very glad for Meg’s vacay!  And kind of jealous.)

Thank you, Teachers, for your hard work, compassion, and patience with students everywhere.  I do believe we are making a difference in the lives of children and, more now than ever, they need those positive role models and strong relationships.  A couple of fellow bloggers who are teachers deserve some recognition.

Clean Eating Chelsey: 5th grade teacher – I don’t know how you do it, Chelsey.  I love my third graders, but I can’t imagine teaching an older grade!  From your stories, you are obviously well-loved and such an effective teacher!

Powercakes by Kasey: Currently, completing (and finishing!) her student teaching in Health and Physical Education – even teaches her students Zumba!  What a fun area to get a degree in and what a positive influence you are making in helping students lead healthy lifestyles!

My amazing teaching team:  We totally rocked this year!  (I still can’t believe we have 9 days of schoo left!)  We all work so incredibly well together, have a ton to contribute, and are always there to support each other both professionally and personally.  And sometimes we like to wear wacky tacky clothes together.  We have a lot of fun together!

I know there are tons of other fellow teachers-bloggers out there, so for you: Happy Teacher Appreciation Week!  I do hope something special was done for you, no matter how big or small, just know that your hard work with students is making a difference.

What other teachers are out there?  What is your subject area/grade level?
