Conscious Box Giveaway – 3 months! {CLOSED}

I’m wiped.  It wasn’t a super busy weekend, but both nights were late and I have a hard time catching up after that.  Friday night was trivia night with parents and co-workers from the school where I teach.  My table definitely didn’t come close to winning, but we had a blast anyway!  Trivia is so hard!

I layed around most of the day on Saturday and even took a rest day from the gym.  Saturday night, my family went out to dinner at Vino Nadoz Wine Bar.  It was fabulous and I’m pretty sure we ordered almost everything on the menu.  I’ll share the goodness on Wednesday for WIAW.

My little brother Justin was in town and Sunday was his last day, so my parents had brunch at their home with more food.  I’d say I was food-ed out with all that was consumed this weekend, but I’m pretty sure that’s never the case.  🙂  While it was sad to bid Justin farewell, it will be less than two weeks before I see him again as Jonny and I will be visiting him during my spring break!

Flashdance, Football, & Bikram

My weekend was filled with Flashdance, football, and a Bikram yoga class.  Well, actually I was avoiding watching football while Jonny stayed put in front of the tv for every.single.game.  Not that I’m complaining or anything; we do our own thing, no big deal, and enjoy the time we do spend together.  I blog.  He watches football.  It works out nicely.  🙂

Our weekend did start out quite lovely on Friday night.  Jonny’s parents had gotten us second-row seats to see Flashdance at Peabody Opera House in St. Louis (thank you!).  Peabody was recently remodeled; I’d never been before as this was my first time, but Jonny and I both noticed how beautiful it was.

flashdance peacbody

As for the musical itself?  AMAZING!!!  I had never even seen the movie Flashdance, so I really had no expectations for the musical.  It absolutely blew my mind.  I adore watching singing and dancing (probably because I can’t do either – at all), and I was in heaven throughout the show.  Plus, all the dancers had incredible bodies.  Their muscles were popping, and each dancer was more ripped than the next.

flashdance

The singing, dancing, and storyline were all phenomenal.  Jonny and I thoroughly enjoyed the show and our time together.  And I’d be lying if I didn’t tell you that it made me want to go home and dance or go to the gym and lift weights.  Fit bodies are hot bodies.

Quite the marvelous evening with lots more marvelous after.

Saturday is when the football began.  Itz not that I mind football (Go Rams! Ha!), but I just don’t care to watch it.  That’s all. 🙂  So on Saturday while Jonny was watching football, I prepared dinner in my pajamas and I couldn’t have been happier!

cooking dinner

You know how much I LOVE pajamas, right?  I mean, hello, I got five new pairs for Chanukah!  I live in them.  The pink and orange pj’s are from my sister.  I cooked a spaghetti squash, then made a ground turkey, black bean, onion, peppers, garlic, tomatoes, and spices mix to put on top.  All served over a bed of baby kale (to which Jonny informed me that I gave him “too much foliage.”)  It turned out mighty fine, if I do say so myself.

dinner

Healthy dinners don’t have to be hard, people.  I literally cooked it all together and called it a day.  The beans and extra veggies really beefed up the turkey meat, so it made a huge portion.  I used it the next morning in an egg scramble, and will also use it for my lunches this week.  Jonny ate his with a dollop of plain Chobani greek yogurt on top (instead of sour cream, much healthier!)

After dinner Jonny went back to watching football while I did some laundry (four loads to be exact!), and finished cleaning up the kitchen. In between drives or during commercial breaks, I was able to weasel Jonny into taking pictures of me doing these very important tasks.  He was like, “I’m taking pictures of you with the laundry?  Doing dishes?” Yes, dear.

laundry & dishes

Influenster sent me three bottles of Palmolive® Fresh Infusions dish soap to try out, so it made doing the dishes slightly more fun since the soaps really do smell good and I’m a nerd like that. 😉

Other random occurrences that happened throughout the weekend while Jonny was watching football included:

  • 1)  Going to a cooking class with my friend, Angel.  The class itself was not totally stellar since we already knew how to cut and roast veggies.  However, they gave us an apple and a spaghetti squash (which I used for dinner), so it made it a little better.
  • 2)  I cut and cleaned my very first pomegranate.  It was messy, and next time I will try the cold water in a bowl trick.  I love pomegranate seeds.  Tastes like candy!
  • 3)  Conscious Box sent me their all-new vegan box!  Can’t wait to try my goodies.  I’ll share the good stuff with you, and maybe, just maybe, host another giveaway.
  • 4)  Sunday morning Bikram class was followed with downing a bottle of ZICO coconut water.  Coconut water always makes me feel awesome, especially so after super sweaty Bikram classes.

weekend random

This was the first Bikram class I had been to in quite some time.  Itz such a huge time commitment that I have trouble doing it on a regular basis.  The class is ninety minutes, but you have to get there ten minutes in advance.  Plus, drive time to and from, that’s around two hours!  The benefits are immeasurable and I absolutely love how it makes me feel afterwards.  I bought a Groupon for ten classes, so I’m hoping to make Bikram on a regular basis for the next couple of months.

Yesterday’s class was especially challenging since I had not been, but I made it through.  That’s one of the reasons I love Bikram.  Anyone can do it no matter your level of expertise with yoga.  I’m certainly no yogi pro, but because I try the poses, listen to the instructor, try to hold the poses some more, and absorb the energy around me, I am able to succeed during the 90-minutes of 26 poses in a 105 degree room.  I’ll be back next week, Bikram.

Tell me something about Flashdance, football, or Bikram.  Ready?  Go!

Conscious Box Giveaway {CLOSED}

As I wrote on my Facebook page, “Yesterday’s events are horrific, disturbing,
and unforgettable.  While we cannot undo the damage, we can move forward
and try to improve ourselves and the world we live in.  We can come
together as a community, as a country, and as the world.  Do something
nice for someone else, smile at those you encounter, and pay it forward.
Be a bit kinder, more tolerable, and open your heart to those need.
Let’s make the world a better place one tiny action at a time.”

I cannot begin to imagine the heartbreak that the families, community, and town of Newtown are suffering.  My thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected. xoxo

**********************************************************************************************

Since it is Monday, let’s try to find some marvelous here since we can’t let fear rule our lives.  We can find joy in the little things and enjoy our time we have together with our loved ones.  My Saturday night started out doing just that.  I got dolled up, and Jonny and I headed to our dear friends’ home for a Chanukah party.  Of course I added a spritz of my Forever Red perfume from the Cosmo VoxBox.

Forever Red

Loving itz scent.  We had an absolute blast celebrating the last night of Chanukah with some of our closest friends, eating delicious latkes, and smiling and laughing and merely enjoying each other’s company.

Sunday morning began with sleeping in (kind of, if 7 am counts), then making a homemade oatmeal pancake for breakfast.  I topped it with a smear of sunflower seed butter, a sprinkle of cinnamon, and a drizzle of honey.

pancake

So good.  After some cleaning and laundry, I decided making it to the gym wasn’t a priority.  Instead, I broke out my new yoga mat and turned on my Tara Stiles yoga dvd.  I felt rejuvenated after the 15 minutes of the “relaxed easygoing flow.”

yoga

Child’s pose, one of my favorites as itz so relaxing.  For Sunday night dinner we went over to my parents’ house where we celebrated the last night of Chanukah for the second time.  Lighting all the candles on the menorah is too nice to do just once!

chanukah

My dad prepared an enormous beef tenderloin – literally, the size of a small cow.  My mom made her famous twice baked potatoes and green beans, cauliflower, and tomato mozzarella salad were our sides.

sunday night dinner

And while we were over there, I obviously had to show off the Program Guide of a local gym’s magazine where I was featured on the cover.  Hehe, it just doesn’t get old!

Now there’s some marvelous for ya!  What’s marvelous in your day?  For a whole lot of marvelous, pop on over to Healthy Diva Eats where itz Marevlous in my Monday!

Healthy Living Holiday Gift Guide

Are you still not done with your holiday shopping?  Itz ok, I won’t tell! 😉 Since Chanukah is just about halfway through, I’m almost done.  Shhh!  I know most people have until Christmas to shop, so if you’re still stuck I’ve got some great ideas.  What’s even better is that the list I’ve put together encourages healthy living!

PV Body – I haven’t written about this yet, but will review it soon. PV Body is a subscription company that delivers name brand workout apparel!  You fill out a short style quiz, then they send you top and bottoms each month.  Itz $49 a month which includes free shipping and their customer service is SO easy to work with.  Plus, if you follow my link, you receive 20% off your first order!  That means you get a workout top and bottom for $40!  You seriously can’t beat $20 per piece.  The items they send usually retail for over $150.  This is the gift that keeps on giving.  There’s no better way to encourage someone to get to the gym then getting them brand new workout gear to make them feel good and want to show it off!

Yurbuds – Yurbuds are by far the best sport earphones I’ve ever worn.  They fit my extra small ears, stay in place, and are not a bother whatsoever.  I received a pair to use during the Nike Women’s Half Marathon and they’re the only thing I’ve used since.

Tara Stiles Yoga DVDs – This is perfect for ALL yogis – the beginner yogi, the wannabe yogi, the advanced yogi, and the sometimes-I-do-yoga yogi!  This 4-pack contains a variety of yoga workouts ranging from 5 minutes to 70 minutes long.  Pick your length, pick your goal, and downward dog you go!  What’s even better? You can get this entire series for only $20!  (Click here to order.)

Harry and David – Who doesn’t love a delicious treat from Harry and David?  They have a wide variety of gifts ranging from nuts to fruits to chocolates to cookies.  You really can’t go wrong.  Living a healthy life does include indulgences such as chocolate dipped fruit!  (And don’t forget to enter my giveaway for your chance to win a box of chocolate covered strawberries!)

Conscious Box – Conscious Box is a monthly box that is sent and filled with items that benefit you and don’t harm the environment.  They find companies that create pure and sustainable products; they strive to be a waste-free business.  My favorite part of Conscious Box is being introduced to products and companies that I have never heard of before.  I feel good about being a consumer to these new products and companies as I know Conscious Box does their research.  Goodies include food, drinks, beauty products, household items, and more!  Each box is filled to the brim and full of surprises.  I think Conscious Box is a gift that’s fun and one of a kind!

PRO Compression Socks – You’ve heard me rave about these babies a lot.  And for good reason, too.  They help immensely with recovery of running, weight lifting, and traveling.  Don’t forget to use the discount code FIT40 to receive 40% off your order plus free shipping!

Subscription to Runner’s World Magazine – This is a must-have for all runners out there!  Another gift that keeps on giving filled with running tips, race prep, training plans, and more!  (Sorry folks, I won’t be on the cover of yours.)

Sweaty Bands Headband – I LOVE all my sweaty bands as they keep my hair in place, don’t fall off my head, and look cute.  My favorite is definitely my sparkly silver one that’s I’m rocking in the picture above.

FreeMotion Fitness Apparel – Also shown in the picture above, the blue jacket is something that I always receive tons of compliments on when I wear it out no matter where I go.  I love their bright colors and functionality and originality of all their pieces.  I also have a sports bra that I’m wearing in the picture below.

Yogi Clothing – In the yoga picture, I’m wearing the Yogi Clothing’s active shorts.  They’re super comfortable and they don’t move when I move.  Yogi clothing has a wonderful line of clothes designed to be worn for working out or going out.  I also have the Motorcycle Jacket which also warrants tons of compliments when I’m out.  You’re sure to find a unique piece here that will definitely please!

What’s on your holiday gift list this year?

An Eco-Friendly Giveaway {CLOSED}

I’ve been absent from the blogosphere the entire weekend as I stood next to my best friend as she married the love of her life on Saturday.  But I’m back now!  The weekend was extremely packed, and extremely fun.  I’ll give you the full rundown later, but in case you missed any of the past posts, here are the links with a brief summary:

  • Kids Snacks:  I listed all of the snacks that I used during my Healthy Eating + Active Living = Happy Kids summer school class.  There are fifteen+ snack ideas that will appeal to kids, but are fast, easy, healthy, and tasty for adults, too!
  • High Five Friday: Nancy, Stephanie, & Roxie all got shout outs for being awesome.  (Read the post for the exact reasons, particularly Roxie’s amazing story and progress!)
  • Foodie Pen Pals – June:  What exactly my box of goodies entailed for this month’s FPP, as well as a short tribute to my best friend who got married.

Now that you’re caught up, let’s start with just a few reasons why Monday is marvelous!

In addition to Marevlous In My Mondays, Katie has started a new challenge!  She made a “Healthy & Happy Divas in July” challenge where you post a new picture to Instagram according to the theme of the day and tag #healthydivas.  Yesterday’s word was pink, and since I did a lot of relaxing as I was exhausted, I took a picture of my comfy, pink robe that I live in at home.  Today’s word is smile, so I posted this picture:

Not only is the dress pretty marvelous, but I’m smiling, too, so it’s kind of a double whammy!  I can’t take credit for the dress though, as my sister let me borrow it!  Isn’t it amazing??  I may have to steal borrow it again sometime…

Speaking of Instagram, if you don’t use it then you’re totally behind the times!  Just kidding, but it really is the new thing.  For all the newbies out there: Instagram is another social media platform (like Facebook and Twitter) that allows you to take, post, and share pictures.  It also is a super easy and fun way to apply various filters to pictures; you know, make a photo black and white or look like it’s a vintage pic.  Pretty marvelous, indeed!  Follow me on Instagram by finding ItzLinz.

Instagram pic

Something else that is marvelous is how close the RWRunStreak is to the finish!  I’ve kept up with it since Memorial Day and have just a few days to finish the streak on the Fourth of July.  This weekend was a little tricky to fit in my runs since we were so busy.  However, since I’m such an early bird, I awoke before most of the other girls and got my mileage in.  Yay!  3.38 miles on Friday with another bridesmaid, 4.15 miles on Saturday (part of which was completed with the bride herself!), and just a quick mile on Sunday.

Not only does my sister have great fashion sense, she’s also an unbelievable photographer.  She specializes in newborns, but every once in awhile she needs a goregous model me to photograph one of her beautiful head pieces.

I’m wearing a headband by Crowned Embellishments.

The last absolutely marvelous item in today’s post is the Conscious Box.  I first found out about the Conscious box last winter, loved the idea, and ended up gifting a box to my parents and in-laws for the holidays.  It made for a very fun and different present!

  • My first review of the Conscious Box was in January: read here.
  • My second review of the Conscious Box was in March: read here.

What is the Conscious Box?  Conscious Box is a monthly box that is sent and filled with items that benefit you and don’t harm the environment.  I’m always preaching “Go Green!” and Conscious Box’s mission aligns with my philosophy completely.

From what I hear, July’s box is going to be exceptionally stellar… Which is exactly why Conscious Box is giving away one box to an Itz Linz reader!  Here’s what you can do to enter for your chance to win:

  • Leave a comment telling us one way you make conscious decisions to help protect our planet.
  • Subscribe to Itz Linz by entering your e-mail address in the top right corner of this webpage.
  • Follow Itz Linz on Twitter.

March’s Conscious Box

My positivity continued throughout the day even despite the crazy weather.  There was a lot of rain in the morning followed by sunshine and then showers on and off.  Jonny and I took a walk and watched the clouds change multiple times.

Crazy, right?  We did make it home before the clouds opened up, but I just couldn’t believe the changes we saw during our twenty-minute stroll!  Today I went to the gym when I woke up to complete a back, biceps, abs, and sprints workout.

Week 9 Day 5: Back, Biceps, Abs, & Sprints

  • *Superset – Wide Grip Assisted Pull-Up: 3 sets of 12 reps
  • *Superset – Medicine Ball Twist: 3 sets of 12 reps (14 pounds)

  • ^Superset – Tuck Jumps: 3 sets of 15 reps
  • Barbell Curl 21’s: 3 sets of 21 reps (20 pounds)
  • Cardio: 1 minute Run/Walk intervals (30 minutes)

These Phase 3 workouts are long and totally kick my butt!  I love it.  You know what else I love?  Conscious Boxes!  What is Conscious Box?  Conscious Box is a monthly delivery of pure and sustainable products that are handpicked from businesses that care about the planet – just like you!”  Basically, it is a box delivered to your doorstep filled with goodies that benefit you and your body without harming our environment.  Love in a box.  The kind souls at Conscious Box sent me a box to share with you.  Right inside the box is a quick blurb to explain the given month’s theme.

How perfect for Spring!  The “stretch your body” part really hit home for me as I have been trying to stretch on a more consistent basis.  Stretching is not difficult, but I have been having trouble actually making time for it.  I think this Conscious Box’s message is pretty clear. 🙂  On to the goodies:

MixtBag: Haven’t tried these yet, but how can you possibly go wrong with tortilla chips?  Answer: You can’t!  Especially chips that are all natural.  Crunchmaster Multi-Grain Crackers: These had a good flavor and were strong to withstand some serious dipping.  And the ingredient list consisted of only 11 recognizable ingredients.  Score!  The next six items all go with the energy theme.

Tera’s Whey: Goat protein with high-antioxidant superfruits.  I can’t wait to make a smoothie with this!  Java Juice: I don’t love coffee, but do drink it when I need the boost. This extract would be a fast and easy way to get the boost I need!  Good Kind Coffee Creamer: When I do drink coffee, I need to use cream of some sort.  This kind is GMO, gluten, trans-fat, and artificial flavor, color, and preservative free!  What more could you ask for?  Tea Forte Minteas: Perfect for popping in your mouth after a meal and I love the ginger pear flavor – different and tasty!  Healthy To Go! Acai Energy Boost:  You know how much I love acai.  This will be the perfect pick-me-up once spring break is over and I return to work.  EBOOST:  This reminds me of Airbore or Emergen-C, but EBOOST uses real ingredients to boost the immune system. And the pink lemonade flavor was good!

Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds: We have a mini-garden in our backyard thanks to my father-in-law.  Maybe carrots could be our next garden project?  I promise to help!  😉  Olivella:  I’ve never used lotion with olive oil, but now I’m going to start.  This left my hands so silky smooth, and there are no added weird ingredients.  Double win.  Olbas Lozenges:  I’m saving this guy for when I really need it, but they claim to fight coughs and soothe sore throats.  The Conscious Box also included numerous coupons to use online for purchasing products.  Isn’t it amazing?  I told you so!

Have you order your Conscious Box yet?  It is a fabulous way to find out about companies and products that are good for our bodies and our earth.  For me, both factors are crucial when purchasing food, household items, and/or body products.  In addition, Conscious Box makes for such a fun gift!  I gifted a box to my parents and in-laws during the holidays. You can choose a single box or a package.  They are reasonably priced for ALL of the goodies you get.  Thank you, Conscious Box, for sharing this amazing box with me!

What would you want to try out of March’s Conscious Box?

Conscious Box

Last night I got to spend my night with the one on the left, and today I get to spend the afternoon with the one on the right!  They are hilarious.  My dog, Zoey, came with me last night and Jacob chased her around calling, “Zoey!  I want to talk to you, Zoey!”  Finally, he got her when she was laying down and goes, “Zoey… where’s Jonny?”  #thingskidssay

Later, “Zee-zee [can’t quite pronounce ‘Lindsay’], why is Zoey not talking to me?”  They both always crack me up, and I’m sure Jackson will do just the same today!  Tales from our adventure will be shared tomorrow. 🙂

A few months ago I discovered Conscious Box.  Once I began reading what it entailed and stood for, I was hooked.  I ordered one instantly.  And another for my parents.  And another for my in-laws.

The Mission of Conscious Box: “Conscious Box is dedicated to introducing you to the most ethical, sustainable, and honest businesses that create the purest products available.  We scour the marketplace to find those that stand above the rest.  Discovery defines the Conscious Box experience.”

I love finding new-to-me products and food… especially ones that are good for me AND the environment.  I truly believe that we can all do a better job in preserving and honoring our earth.  “Go green” is a common mantra coming from my mouth as I pull out soda cans or paper from the trash.  It’s not that hard to recycle, people!  Anyway, Conscious Box offers an opportunity to discover new environmentally friendly and healthy products of all sorts.  There is nothing artificial about it.  It is like a surprise gift of goodies that arrives in your mailbox each month.  Have I sold you yet?  Check out the latest in the January box.

Green Tara Spirulina Energy Bites, thinkThin blueberry & mixed nuts bar, Kelapo Virgin Coconut Oil, Raw Revolution Spirulina & Cashew bar, and Parma! Vegan Parmesan.  I am especially excited about the coconut oil because, recently, I have seen lots of recipes that call for it.  It is a bit pricey, and without knowing if I would use it regularly, I have been a bit reluctant to purchase a jar.  Now I can try it.  Yay!

Ancient Treasures Tea and Guayaki Yerba Mate Tea in two flavors: Chai Spice Mate and Mate Chocolatte.  I love tea and can’t wait to try these new flavors.

World Centric disposable silverware (made from plants, not plastic!), Ancient Minerals Magnesium Spray and Gel, Eco-Dent toothpowder (instead of paste) and dental gum, Jo-Sha Peppermint Wipe, and Clean Well instant hand sanitizer (alcohol free!).  Plus, a sample of Golden Earth euphoria perfume that has rose and jasmine and “inspires joy and romance.”  Oooh la la!

Honestly, I would have never known about any of these products if it weren’t for Conscious Box.  Also in the box is a card that briefly explains each product, it’s use, and some background information which is great to learn more.  And I know I’ve said it before, but I just love love love how it is all so environmentally friendly and safe for people with real, natural ingredients.  Mildly obsessed?  Maybe, but well worth it!

Which of these products would you want to try?  Why?
