28 Weeks Pregnant | Orange Drink Glucose Test

28 weeks pregnant = 7 months pregnant!  What the what?!  That’s third trimester, baby!  I can’t believe there are three months left – Baby Itz will be here before we know it!

The Bumpdate:

28 weeks

Baby Itz: 28 Weeks

Baby’s size? Eggplant.

Maternity clothes? Living in them and loving them!

Stretch marks? Nope.

Sleep: My pillowcase to the pregnancy pillow that Jonny bought me months ago finally came!  It just arrived last night, so I still need to wash it before I bring it to bed.  I’ll use it one of these days and I’m sure it will be awesome!

Best moment this week: Walking into the baby room and seeing all his furniture!

Miss anything? Not really.

Movement: SO active! Good thing Jonny has already bought every jersey to represent our favorite sports teams! That’s the Cardinals, University of Miami, and Mizzou. And of course he’s got a Chelsea soccer onesie and a Jamaica jersey (from the in-laws!).

Food Cravings: No cravings.

Anything making you queasy or sick? Nope.

Gender: BOY BOY BOY!!!!

Labor Signs: None, not that I would know what those feel like anyway!

Symptoms: My back hasn’t been as sore in the evenings and hopefully I’m not jinxing myself by saying that. Other symptoms include major “pregnancy brain.” Itz a real thing, y’all. I can’t remember everything. Lists are my friend.

Belly Button – in or out?  In, but itz getting tight. It’ll pop one of these days!

Wedding Rings – on or off? On!

Happy or Moody? Happy.

Looking Forward To: We are going to Mexico on Friday!  We could call it our “Babymoon,” but really my older brother is getting married.  It will definitely be our last vacation sans baby – so many changes coming our way! Can’t wait to get out of this frigid weather and get my pregnant belly on the beach under the hot sun!

Now let’s talk about that orange drink glucose test that everyone speaks of around this time during their pregnancy.  I had mine last Wednesday which was when I officially turned 28 weeks and had a doctor appointment.  The taste?  Totally not bad!

glucose

Yes, of course itz super sweet (I mean, hello, itz got 50 grams of sugar in it!).  I had read plenty of blogs saying the taste wasn’t terrible; I was so curious to try it!  It tasted like flat orange soda.  It seemed like there was a tiny bit of carbonation in it – not sure if that’s true or not, but that’s how it tasted to me.  You have to drink it within five minutes, so I basically chugged the small bottle.  By the end, it began to burn my throat a little, maybe because it was SO sweet.

Also, you have to fast two hours before you drink and then you drink the orange drink and get your blood drawn an hour later.  I was a bit worried about “not being able to eat” for three straight hours, but I made sure to eat a pretty protein packed meal right before the three hour time period and that held me over just fine.  (I had a large bowl of plain Greek yogurt, fruit, and granola.)  When I got to the doctor’s office and was waiting to have my blood drawn, it seemed as though Baby Itz was extra active!

belly

All that sugar!  I literally watched my belly while waiting for the doctor because I could see his movement through my shirt – so fun!

What did you think of the orange drink? Did/will you take a “babymoon?”

  1. omg love the baby moon! i wanna do that :D when i get pregnant that is ;) hahahahaha

oh and you made me laugh a lot through this post

“What the what?!” and “Itz a real thing, y’all” hahahaha oh how I miss you :(

  2. Love that you guys are getting away- even if it is for a wedding :) I think it’s important to cherish those moments of a family of two before a family of three! Glad to hear that taste wasn’t bad! I always fear the drinks you have to take for appts are awful haha

  3. So pregnancy is no where near in my future, but I feel like I’m learning a lot about pregnancy through blogs. Like the orange drink? What? I had no idea about it. Orange soda is not a fave of mine so I don’t think I’ll enjoy that too much. And yes yes yes to a babymoon! Totally deserving of some pampering whilst carrying a small human around for 9 months!

  4. I’m actually drinking it today! The taste is not bad, but last time I failed the one hour so I had to take the fasting 3 hour test. 15 minutes after drinking it (it has twice as much sugar as the one hour), I passed out and threw up all over myself – ew, right??

I’m hoping to pass the one hour today, but even if I fail, they won’t have me take the 3 hour. I’m not a sugar fan! ;)

I’m so happy you get to go enjoy some sunshine! Have a great time!

  5. Good job on the fasting…with our second they didn’t tell me to fast beforehand so hubby and I went out to lunch before my appointment (obviously forgot from first pregnancy!). Well needless to say I was right back there for the 3 hour test!!! I felt like a pin cushion but at least I had 3 hours of just reading quietly!! Love when the belly shakes!!

  6. I love all the movement from the outside! I’m not there yet, but I’m feeling it a lot from inside these days which I love. Somehow, I got to skip the orange drink with my midwife first time around…not sure how this group handles it.

  7. We are taking a babymoon – we really hoped to St. Louis for Cardinals game and may just go on a whim to an early game (I hope so, I want to meet up :) )…but we are going to bed and breakfast in local town and hubby is planning the rest.

Already nervous about my orange drink to come :) Hope Zoey is all better!

  8. I didn’t think the glucose drink was nearly as bad as everyone made it out to be. I agree – it tasted like a flat orange soda to me. I was expecting I’d have to gag it down from everything people said.

So glad to hear everything is going well! You’re looking adorable, per usual!

  9. You continue to look adorable! I had the orange drink during my first pregnancy, but this time they gave me the fruit punch and ick — the orange is way better. Have such a fun time in Mexico!

  10. I can’t believe you are in your third trimester!! Time flies!!
Have the best time on your trip! Pretty sure you will be.
It will probably be a nice thing to get a way for a bit, even if it’s for a wedding!
    You are looking great.

  11. 3rd trimester already?!?! crazy how fast time is flying and following along your journey!! yay for baby furniture and getting through the orange drink ;)
and have fun in Mexico!! I miss the sun !

  12. I cannot believe you’re already 7 months! Wow!!! He’ll be here before you know it! How fun that y’all get to go on a little mini vaca before baby, even if it’s for a wedding. Who knows if you ‘d have done anything otherwise. Love reading your weekly bump dates!

  13. I actually had to drink it twice because of a history of diabetes (once early and once at the regular time). I really didn’t think it was that bad. I just kind of threw it back. But I didn’t have to fast beforehand, just during and I only had to wait an hour for the results.

  14. We wanted to do a babymoon, but then got invited to a wedding out of town 8 weeks after baby is due, so I suppose we’ll have our babymoon WITH baby! The wedding is where we had our honeymoon, so I imagine we’ll really enjoy introducing the babe to one of our favorite places on earth! <3
