14 Weeks Pregnant – The Prune Juice Episode! Oh, you know this will be a good one! 🙂  By the way, quick side-note: I have created an Itz Pregnancy tab at the top of my blog (under my header) where I have compiled any and all pregnancy related posts and will continue to do so throughout this magical journey.  Just an FYI.  Now the good stuff:

14 weeks

Baby Itz: 14 Weeks

Baby’s size? Lemon.

Maternity clothes? Not wearing any yet, though I already know stretchy pants and leggings will be my best friends throughout this pregnancy. <– same

Stretch marks? Nope.

Sleep: Still good.  Although Sunday night was a little wonky at the beginning.  Usually Jonny and I go to sleep with the TV on.  Well, until a point where I sometimes request that itz turned off.  It doesn’t bother me as long as the volume is low.  Well, on Sunday I had woken up after being asleep for about thirty minutes and the TV was still on.  The volume was low, but the light was really bothering me.  Jonny said he was still watching, but I literally could not go to sleep with it on.  Combine that with the fact that I was overly tired, and I felt like I was about to have a meltdown, like toddler-style.  Thankfully, Jonny turned off the TV and I was able to fall back asleep.  It was just weird that it bothered me so SO much!  Hopefully it won’t become a pattern.

Best moment this week: Um… eating lots of leftover Halloween candy? 😉 Oh, pregnancy related?  There were still a couple of people who we got to tell that we were pregnant and that is the absolute best.

Miss anything? Working out!  I’ve started taking longer walks and plan to do a prenatal yoga class at the end of this month.

Movement: None that I can feel.

Food Cravings: No real cravings, just trying to eat more balanced meals (aka not all carbs all the time!).

Anything making you queasy or sick? Like I mentioned last week, my appetite has just been weird.  I haven’t been hungry right when I wake up, so I wait a little while until my hunger kicks in.  When it does kick in, itz raging and it makes me feel a little queasy, so I’ve got to find something FAST.

Gender: Too early to tell, and, yes, we’re definitely finding out!

Labor Signs: None.

Symptoms: Here’s where The Prune Juice Episode comes in.  As you may know, constipation can be a common symptom of pregnancy.  During my first trimester, I was not affected by this at all.  Actually quite the opposite, if ya know what I mean.  Lately, I haven’t been quite as “regular” as I once was.  I wouldn’t say I’m constipated (ugh, sorry, such a gross word), but it wasn’t happening on the daily like it used to.  I wasn’t even uncomfortable, but I thought not going everyday was reason enough to get things moving (note: itz not!).  With all the wonderful pregnancy books, blogs, and other resources I’ve been reading, I learned that warm prune juice does the trick.  I figured I’d give it a try, and let me confirm: IT WORKS!  Like immediately!  It made me feel a bit crampy and not too pleasant, so I won’t be repeating that unless I absolutely have to.  Instead, I’ll focus more on increasing my water, vegetable intake, and fiber.  Much better plan.

Belly Button – in or out?  In.

Wedding Rings – on or off? On! My hands swell in the heat and do the opposite in the cold.  So my rings have actually been loose lately.

Happy or Moody? HAPPY!  Actually really, really happy this week. 🙂

Looking Forward To: Another ultrasound.  I was totally spoiled in that I got an ultrasound every week from 6 – 13 weeks.  (Most people only go a couple of times in that time period.)  Waiting for my 16 Week ultrasound is taking forever!

  1. I’ve definitely had my fair share of prune juice from what I like to call being blocked, Ha Ha! Glad to hear you’re doing so well. Pregnancy looks good on ya girl 🙂

  2. That prune juice sounds horrible. One of my bfs is a RD and she said that pesto sauce is good for constipations. So, perhaps try having a bit of pesto each day… With eggs, pasta, chicken, etc.

  3. You are lucky that prune juice works for yoU! I tried ti several times during the end of my first try/beginning of my second try to no avail. I was going almost a week in-between each bowel movement..and even when I went.. I knew I wasn’t going a weeks worth (gross.. nah..nothing is off limits when it comes to pregnancy! ha!)

    At one point..maybe around 15/16 wks? I was straining so hard that I irritated my cervix and I started spotted. HOLY FREAK OUT. It turned out it was only irritation..but man. Haven;t strained since.

    Since about 17 weeks.. I’ve been good. I increased my water intake from about 3/4 of a gallon to more than a gallon each day and I really think that is making the big difference. It also helps prevent contractions and other signs of labor..such as a shortening cervix.

    But beware.. I did end up with a hemorrhoid! Mine has only bled two times, though! So it isn’t too bad.

  4. Lol! Never tried the prune juice with my chickies….but I never had that problem! With my second we had a lot of ultrasounds at first (following a miscarriage) and I remember waiting once things were ok was torture!!

  5. Weirdly enough, prune juice doesn’t work for me. That’s probably a good thing though because after trying it several times to no avail, I’ve learned I actually really love prune juice and I’d rather not have that result every time I drink it.

  6. Pregnancy really messes with your digestive system. The iron in prenatal vitamins can bind you up to so that may be some of the cause as well. I never tried prune juice…yuck! To be honest, a half cup of coffee was usually enough to get me moving. Pairing that along with lots of water, fiber, yogurt and physical activity helped. 🙂

  7. Haha I experienced the lovely side effect of constipation during pregnancy, and it is NO fun, that’s for sure. I tried prune juice, but because I was already experiencing nausea, it was REALLY hard to drink and keep down. Lots of water, green veggies, and walking helped me.

  8. I haven’t heard of the prune juice trick. I’ve heard of so many different remedies people use. I am sure that whenever I get pregnant, I’ll have way too many choices which will cause me to become indecisive. haha! You look so happy, plus yellow looks fab on you girl!

  9. Ha! I wish I could give you some tips & tricks for… being stopped up, since it’s my LIFE, but NOTHING works for me! UGH – so annoying, lol! However, I do know people seem to GO with coffee, flax seeds or eater higher fat. WHO KNOWS! lol!

    And I think it’s so cute that you’re carrying a little lemon in your belly!

    I never had ‘stopped up’ ness during my pregnancy…and count my lucky stars on that one! I was always the opposite the whole time…super regular. hah

    Yay for Ultrasounds! Those are the best 🙂

  11. Prune juice didn’t work for me or maybe I just couldn’t bring myself to drink enough of it to do anything. I took a natural pill made with prune extract instead to get things moving without it being intense like a laxative would be. Fortunately just upping my water/fiber intake this time around has been all that I’ve needed. And moving. Even just walking more regularly helps keep things moving along in that department. (easier said than done when I work a desk job and it’s getting cold and dark outside)
