I PR-ed in San Francisco!

As you can tell by the title, my tweets, and my Instagram photos, I set a personal record (PR) yesterday during the Nike Women’s Half Marathon!  I crossed the finish line in 1 hour 56 minutes 16 seconds (1:56:16) and was greeted by a good looking SF firefighter dressed in a tuxedo who served me a little blue Tiffany’s box on a platter.

Not bad for a finisher’s medal, eh?  The event itself was awesome.  There were 25,000 runners which makes this the largest women’s race in the country.  The expotique was fun.  Luna Bar had a “bar” set up where you could try a sliver of various flavors.  Nuun was also there.  I’d never tried Nuun before, but learned it is a sports drink tab with electrolytes and no sugar for optimal hydration.

They had several flavors available to sample; my favorite was lemon + lime though I really liked them all.  Nuun was also being passed out throughout the race at some of the water stations.  It was very refreshing without being too sugary or sweet.

After a lovely dinner with my fellow FitFluential Ambassadors, I laid out my clothes and necessities before heading to bed at 9:30 p.m.  My gear included a Team Yurbuds Inspire shirt, my race number, my Brooks PureFlow shoes, and my Yurbuds.

I awoke at 5:00 a.m., ate breakfast, got dressed, and headed to my starting corral with Caitlin.  We arrived at 6:15 a.m., and since Caitlin wasn’t allowed in the corral, we said good-bye, she wished me luck, and snapped a picture before I walked in.

Following the race, there was a lot going on.  After posing with my new boyfriend the firefighter, I headed to the stretching area.  Nike had an entire tent set up and filled with yoga mats, foam rollers, and stretching bands.  It was pretty awesome.  A woman was in the middle on a platform demonstrating and calling out different yoga poses and stretches.  Naturally I asked the stranger next to me to snap a photo when I was doing downward dog.

After some stretching, I went to get a complimentary massage.  I was paired with a woman who was very kind, but I would have preferred someone a bit stronger to really massage my muscles.  It was relaxing though.

I hung out for a little over an hour before jumping on a shuttle to head back to Union Square.  At this point, I was freezing and couldn’t wait to take a hot shower!  It was an amazing event where I was inspired by others, as well as the atmosphere.  A big thank you goes to my sponsors Yurbuds and REBOOTizer!

For the next few days, I’m going to take it easy, stretch often, and go on a couple of short jogs to keep my legs loose.  After all, on Thursday I head to Pennsylvania for the Runner’s World Half Marathon!  For now and probably a long time after, I’ll be sporting my Tiffany’s necklaces.

The peace sign Tiffany’s necklace is from Jonny on our wedding day.  A girl can never have too many Tiffany’s necklaces – especially when one is from a PR half and the other is from the love of her life.

Pretty marvelous, right?

What’s the coolest medal you’ve ever received?  Do you own any jewelry from Tiffany’s?  My new necklace goes nicely with my current collection. :)

  6. Now THAT is a medal for me! Wow it’s so beautiful! And looks nice with the peace necklace. How cool that there was someone leading yoga poses on site and foam rollers too! This is the nicest race I’ve ever heard of.

  7. Awesome awesome awesome job on the PR! WOO!

That post race stretch/massage area is killer. What a great idea. And for the massage, it was actually better it wasn’t as deep because you should have lighter pressure post intense workout like that to avoid too much trauma to the muscles. Sorry. Trainer talk in me.

Nuun is my favorite beverage for long runs. Love the electrolytes without the overly sugary sweetness of other drinks.

Okay…done now. Can’t wait to see you on Thursday!

    • Haha well I guess Nike knew what was best then!! This was the first time I had Nuun and LOVED it!! I’d actually never even heard of it before (where have i been?!). See you SOON!!
