Itz Marvelous: Chi-Town Edition

The first part of my Chicago weekend started off marvelously, and now I’m here to tell you about the remainder since it was marvelous and today is Marvelous Monday with Diva Katie.  Friday night happened at Gibson’s Steakhouse.  It was crazy busy, and there were quite a few rambunctious Notre Dame and Miami fans which made the restaurant noisy.  However, the food and company (my parents and Jonny’s parents) were both excellent, and that’s what’s really important anyway.

I woke up on Saturday morning and went on a quick one-mile jog in the city.  It took longer than I expected since I had to stop every block to wait for the cross walk sign to tell me it was ok to go.  That’s one thing I don’t love about city life, but luckily it was just a mile, so it didn’t last too, too long.  After showering and getting my nails painted, I met Chelsey (Clean Eating Chelsey) and Tina (Best Body Fitness) for coffee.

Chelsey’s blog was one of the first blogs I began reading; plus, she is a fifth grade teacher, so we both have that elementary teacher thing going on.  Tina is the one who hosts Best Body Bootcamp (which I participated back in March), and always writes very informative and inspiring fitness posts.  Needless to say, I was completely and totally stoked to meet both of them, and we had a wonderful time chatting.  Tina is also one of the girls who I’ll be rooming with in Pennsylvania for the Runner’s World Half Marathon, so it was nice to meet her in advance.

The marvelous-ness continued throughout the day as my mom, mother-in-law, and I went shopping.  We walked and shopped all day long and found some cute items.  When we got back to the hotel, we had a quick pre-dinner drink before changing and heading out to make our reservations.

We dined at Tavern On Rush; we sat in the bar area which had an awesome ambiance.  Our food was very tasty, too!  The boys were at the Miami game, so we enjoyed our girl time together.

Something else marvelous?  The flat screen in our hotel room at the Talbott was hooked up as a computer.  Naturally, I had to pull the blog up and pretend like it was on tv. #nerd  Maybe someday?

You’ll also notice my marvelous “U” attire.  I was being a supportive wife and sporting Miami gear to cheer on Jonny and the Canes.  Unfortunately it was not enough, and the team suffered a loss to Notre Dame.  Boo.

While on vacation, coffee always tastes better.  Whenever I’m out-of-town, I always mention this.  I’m not sure the rhyme or reason, but it does.  I definitely got my coffee fix this weekend.  On Sunday, I had marvelous coffee dates.

My dad, Jonny, and I are always the early risers of the bunch, so we went to coffee before meeting the rest for breakfast.  Upon leaving Chicago, we had some airport troubles, but not enough to ruin the trip.  We made it home safely, and Jonny and I both are so grateful to have absolutely amazing parents whom we love spending time with.

Thanks to Katie for hosting MIMM.  Check out the other blogs to see what kind of marvelous is going on today.

One last quick marvelous thing – the winner of the Chicago Marathon finished in 2 hours 4 minutes 38 seconds.  That’s crazy fast!!!  26.2 miles in two hours?!  My PR for a half marathon is just under two hours.  And he ran double that!  Totally impressive and totally marvelous.  Congrats, Tsegaye Kebede.  You da man!

What was marvelous about your weekend?

It seriously looks like y’all had such a great time. Love all your coffee dates, haha! Wish i was living in the states still. I so would’ve run the 1/2 Marathon with y’all in PA. It’s in Gettysburg right? If so, that’s only a half hour from my hometown.

  7. Trip to Chi-town? Meeting other bloggers? Sounds like a pretty epic weekend to me!

It’s a good thing Jonny didn’t travel down here to Miami for the game. All the city fans were quite depressed haha :(
