Warrior Dash Recap – 23rd Place!

Itz the moment you’ve all been waiting for – my Warrior Dash recap!  I received an email from FitFluential on Thursday asking if I’d like to participate.  Would I?  I could hardly contain my excitement!  I have run three Warrior Dashes in the past and I was stoked to make it number four.  On Saturday afternoon, my parents and I drove to Old Monroe, Missouri (about 45 minutes outside of St. Louis) to the race grounds.

I picked up my registration packet, pinned my number, attached the timer, and prepared to become a warrior!  Oh, and there was some hair braiding that took place thanks to my wonderful momma!  It wasn’t long before I entered the corral to run in the 2:30 pm wave of runners.  My dad insisted on putting some war paint on me before I took off.

That was supposed to be my “tough face.”  Obviously it needs some work.  The gun went off and the race began.  My goal was to run the race in itz entirety without slowing down to walk (except during the obstacles – you have to go slow there!  Some of them are dangerous!).  In the first mile and a half, there was only one obstacle.  The terrain was hilly, and I pushed myself to run despite the seven miles of speed work I’d completed earlier that morning.

At the very end of the course, you jump over fire, crawl underneath barbed wire through the mud (this is the part where everyone gets covered – there is no avoiding it!), run up and down a mud hill, and then you get to slip and slide through the finish line.  In races past, I crawled through the mud like the other runners.  However, this time there was a kind gentleman who started swimming freestyle right in front of me (giving me a mouth and face full of mud!), so I followed his lead and swam through.

I made it!  After cooling down, walking around the area, getting hosed off, and donating my shoes, I was ready to head home.  The next couple days I kept checking the website in anticipation of my time.  Finally, it was posted! 33:37:75 which meant I placed 23rd out of the 1,292 females ages 20 – 29 who competed!  Not a bad stat, if ya ask me.  I looked closer and discovered my overall place was 470 out of 6,553 runners!  I’m not competitive or anything, really.  Ha!  I’m just a warrior!

After finding my time and place, I immediately went to check out the lovely race photos that were taken by the professionals along the way.  Since I’ve run a million races, I’ve finally learned to be a total ham and pose, flex my muscles, and smile for the cameras! #cheeseball

As if you couldn’t tell, all photos were taken by Sport Photo, Inc.  Throwing my hands up while crossing the finish line has become my signature move when finishing races.  I’m proud, what can I say!  Another signature move?   The split jump.

However, doing a split jump after running 10-miles in the day and caked in mud proved to be a bit more difficult as you can see with my froggy style bent legs.  (It would have been way cooler if my eyes were open and my face didn’t look like I was in pain.  I wasn’t.)  I still got some air though!  And my ultimate signature move:

The Handstand!  Not going to lie here, I definitely toppled over.  The extra weight of all that mud really got me!  #noshame  At least it made for a cool pic while it lasted!

All in all, I highly recommend this race to everyone!  It is SO MUCH FUN and totally makes you feel hardcore.  Go find a Warrior Dash in your area – they are all over the United States now.  Click here for a complete list of dates and locations.

Are YOU a warrior?

Note: I was not compensated beyond my registration for the race.  All thoughts and opinions are my own.
