The Afternoon Run That Turned Out Ok

Itz no secret around here that I love my morning workouts.  Sure, sometimes getting out of bed is difficult, but in the end itz always worth it.

Yesterday morning I woke up, and got dressed to run.  My body was feeling a bit sore from Saturday’s 9-miler and Sunday’s bootcamp, but I needed to get some miles in.  I was really not feeling the run, it was chilly out, and I was tired.  Excuses, excuses, excuses.  I went out, ran a mile, and then decided I would do a longer run after school.  For what seemed like once in forever, I had no plans directly after school, so this was actually a possibility.

As the day went on, the fact that I was going to run after school stayed in the back of my mind.  I knew I didn’t “have” to, especially since I had already run a mile in the morning (to continue my streak!), but I knew I should and I knew I’d be happy after.  I packed a bag of running clothes to change into at school, so I really had no excuses.  I drove to the park, got myself set to go, and took a second to appreciate the view.

It wasn’t the easiest, fastest, or prettiest four miles, but I got it done and enjoyed the beautiful lake, sunset, and perfect 75-degree weather in the process.

When I finished, I took a few minutes to live in the moment, stretch, and take in my surroundings.  I was relaxed.  I was happy.  I couldn’t ask for anything more.

A true j’adore la vie moment, for sure.

Do you prefer morning, afternoon, or evening workouts?

  1. what a beautiful view to run! I am definitely a morning workout person. If I keep pushing it off and pushing it off it hangs over my head and stresses me out. If I wake up and get it over with the rest of my day feels so much better and I won’t just not do it! I definitely have days like you did all the time!

  2. What a gorgeous picture! I am totally a morning exerciser! I rarely workout at night and if I do I have to force myself to go but you are right, once I’m there I never regret it!

  3. Oh that really is a gorgeous view, and it’s so awesome that you actually took the time to appreciate it instead of just passing by and barely giving it a second thought. I like to get my exercise in either in the morning or the evening. I tend to go through an energy slump in the afternoon and find it hard to motivate myself to do anything.

    • Sometimes itz important to stop and appreciate the small (and beautiful!) things in life! I go-go-go all day and at the end of the day I prefer to just relax!

  4. I’m all about the morning workouts! I had early class yesterday, so I went to the gym in the afternoon. It was just not nearly as fun – loud and quiet. I much prefer getting it done first thing in the morning because the gym is nearly empty and because then I don’t have to think about it for the rest of the day. :-)

    • I think itz a fine line at the gym between being totally dead and quite and overcrowded and super busy… I like when people are there because I find it to be motivating, but if it means people are in my way and I have to wait then that’s annoying!

  5. Oh wow – that’s a peaceful setting for a run. I prefer mornings, so it’s not hanging over my head all day, but I am not the morning person I pretend to be. If I had no job or commitments, it would probably be mid-day runs for me (when it’s not hot). :)

  6. I love morning workouts the best… It always feels so good to get it done right away and it helps energize me. I always feel good after pretty much any workout though! Great job on your run! :)

  7. That looks so gorgeous! I always have the best runs when I’m by the lake/water.

I’m more of a morning workout person for sure though. My energy levels are on a continuous decline throughout the day, so by the evening I’m always totally spent and I doubt I would have the motivation to workout! :P

    • There is just something about running by water that makes a run so much more serene!! I like to relax after working all day, so I’m glad I actually made it to the park! :)

  8. I love having those moments of just inner peace and happiness. Sometimes its just a short moment, but its beautiful nonetheless. Beautiful pictures.
I’m definitely more of a morning worker-outer, but I occasionally mix it up.

  9. I have done all three and enjoy each for different reasons.

Mornings (60% of my runs): They really let you feel “accomplished” first thing in the morning and gives you the whole day to be productive and focus on other things.

Midday (37%): I find my best runs happen here. I have some energy from the morning and am not still waking up as I get my first few miles in.

Evening (3% if not less): These are fun. It allows you to decompress from the entire day and just run out any stress you may have accumulated.

All three are winners in my book.

    • I like how you broke it down! And I agree – no matter the time of day, distance, or speed, any run constitutes a run! I think my best runs are in the morning though.
