As you know, I recently returned from a lovely Mexico vacation with my family. There was tons of good food, lots of monkeying around on the beach, and I did even find some time for fitness. I knew I would stay active because itz what I like to do, but much to my dismay the fitness center was seriously lacking. There were three treadmills, three ellipticals, two bikes, and a couple of machines; there were NO dumbbells. Not cool. I did manage to keep my RWRunStreak alive, and some days that’s all I did.
Other days, I tried to get creative outside the puny “fitness center” (if it can even be classified as that). Lucky for me, my family loves fitness, and my little brother Justin had a sweaty workout planned that involved NO equipment! And with the view that we had, it was hard to complain.
Up The Ladder Beach Workout
- 25 burpees
- 50 push-ups
- 75 lunges
- 100 squats
We set up towels in the grassy area right outside the beach and got er done!
Of course there was some monkeying around when I broke out the behind-the-leg-swipe to take out Justin like old times! (I always used to beat him up. Not.)
We really did have fun together and, of course, I challenged him to a tree handstand.
As if that wasn’t enough, after a short break we completed 25 more push-ups and 50 butterfly sit-ups which are much more difficult than traditional sit-ups. Then, Justin’s girlfriend Dana wanted in on some of the fun, so more push-ups were done.
Until my dad decided to add some extra weight to Justin.
Justin was wiped at that point. However, he still had enough energy for Dana!
Impressive, right? They did something that was even more impressive though, and just in (ha) time for High Five Friday with Meg!
Check out my talented brother Justin and girlfriend Dana:
BAM! Seriously amazing! I very unsuccessfully and ungracefully tried without success. Handstands I can do, especially leaning up against something, but to merely pull all my body weight up from the ground with no momentum, hold it, and stay like that? That takes way more strength, balance, and coordination than I have right now. I’ll need to work on it because after Justin got up in his headstand when I tried… I toppled over backwards taking us both out. Whoops.
Needless to say, we stayed active while on vacation and had fun doing it!
Is your family into fitness? Do you workout while on vacation? Can you do a headstand? How about a handstand?

Love this post. Your whole family sounds like such a fun & active bunch :] What a great workout to do on the beach. I’ll have to remember this for our upcoming trip to Greece. Thanks!
My brother is very active. I most definitely continue working out over vacation. It starts the day of perfect :]
Have a wonderful weekend girl!
My family is really a good time!
Oh my gosh have such a fun time in Greece! Can’t wait to hear about it!
Oh girl you will.. and may actually get sick of my recaps haha.
GOOD FOR YOU. even on vacation kicking butt and taking names.
hehe
I like to workout out on vacation just to stay active, but usually just running because the gyms all look like you described!
I hate bad gyms… especially since the resort we were at was so nice, the bad gym was just uncalled for!
Dang!!! that’s an intense workout! Now I want to go workout… at the beach
You rock!! vacation AND working out.. get after it, girl! and no, I can’t do a handstand.. so impressive.
Hehe. Oh I bet you could do handstand if you had something to lean against!!
Wow that is awesome! I wanna know how to do a headstand so bad, but I totally fail
Great job staying commited to fitness even on vacay
Try a handstand first – I think itz way easier!
LOVE your top. Love it.
Your family is so awesome! I love that you and Justin busted out a workout on the beach. So very cool!
You know how the fam is – similar to yours… just as crazy!! So fun!
WOW! That is seriously so amazing sweetie! Gosh it looks like you had fun
I know you did
I missed you so much though! Thanks for linking up love <3
We certainly did
Missed you… not for much longer though!!
Wow, working out on vacation? I am seriously impressed. I went to Mexico in May and I’m pretty sure the heaviest thing I lifted was a margarita (although I did walk up the pyramid at Coba, so I can say I did something besides sit on my ass)
Haha hey sometimes those vacays are the best!!
Looks like an awesome workout! Love that your dad thought he needed more weight haha.
Yeah seriously! My lil bro was dying by the end!!
Love this! It looks like you’re having so much fun,all those smiling faces cheer me up immensely… Yay!
hehe we sure were!
