Monkey Mat

While I have so much to update you on regarding my family’s Mexico vacation, I want to dedicate this post to a new-to-me product that I discovered through FitFluential that came in quite handy during our trip: The Monkey Mat.

What is the Monkey Mat?  The Monkey Mat is a portable, blanket-like mat that is perfect for the outdoors, kids, fitness, and more.  Itz water-resistant, super thin, compact and ultra light which makes it ideal for traveling.  It even comes in a small pouch that can be attached to a bag or thrown in a suitcase.

The first time I took out the Monkey Mat was at the beach.  It measures 5 feet by 5 feet and has weighted corners to prevent it from moving, as well as loops where it can be staked in the ground for extra stability.

I decided to break out a mini yoga session at the beach.  The Monkey Mat stayed put and prevented my feet from burning on the hot sand.

Luckily, I had my own personal photographer (aka: my sister) with me to document the fun.  Her son/my nephew, Jacob, wanted to join me on the mat for yoga, so I decided to teach him downward dog.

Cute little yogi, isn’t he?  The Monkey Mat also came in handy when Jacob and Audrey needed some downtime in the shade.

It would have been more helpful if we brought something to use as stakes for the edges as a 10-month and 3-year old can be very wiggly.  Part of me wishes the weights on the edges were a bit heavier, but on the other hand that would make it much less travel-friendly.  If you were to use this in the sand with little ones, I would definitely recommending staking it down.

It was so easy to shake out, and prevented numerous messes as Jacob came trampling on with sandy wet feet.  Since the mat is water-resistant, the wet sand did not stick, and brushed right off.  I made the mistake of packing this in my checked bag, and at the airport, my mom and sister were wishing I hadn’t so Audrey could crawl around on it rather than the gross airport floor.  Next time I’ll know.

While we had so much fun doing yoga and playing on the Monkey Mat, I knew I had to do one thing to put it through the ultimate test: The Handstand.

Like everything else, it worked beautifully and passed the test with flying colors.  All in all, I am extremely impressed with the Monkey Mat.  The fact that it is so versatile, lightweight, and can be taken anywhere and used for anything scores big numbers in my book.

Especially those of you with little ones, I would certainly suggest investing in a Monkey Mat.  And adults without little ones, but like spending time outdoors, or travel frequently, I would highly recommend the Monkey Mat to you, too!

What would YOU use the Monkey Mat for?

  1. That swimsuit is adorable!! Love the color 🙂
The mat seems perfect when you want to hit the beach but hate the hot sand – my feet always get burnt.

  2. I love the handstand shot – especially with the ocean in the background. Great on-site photography. 🙂

  3. Very cool mat! I’m always in need of something lightweight and portable instead of those old picnic blankets I drag around in the back of the car yet never seem to have when I need ’em! Nice handstand, too!
