Itz no secret around here that I love ice cream, frozen yogurt, and any type of cold deliciousness. Growing up, my favorite place to go for custard was Silky’s and get strawberry (or raspberry) with hard chocolate mixed in. Blame it on my momma because that was always her go-to, but it stuck with me, and I still love that combination.
However, sometimes I don’t feel like leaving the house, so I must resort to my own kitchen. Last night Jonny requested something with chocolate chips. Lucky for him, we had a bag in the freezer. In the blender went: ice, frozen strawberries, chocolate chips, skim milk, vanilla almond milk, chocolate whey protein powder, NuNaturals cocoa bean extract, ground flaxseeds, chia seeds, and vanilla yogurt.
Obviously more chocolate chips got sprinkled on top. This definitely cured our late night hunger (and by late night I mean 8pm) and our sweet tooth. Silky’s got nothin’ on this bowl! I had actually intended on making this as a smoothie, but the chia seeds thickened it up so much that it was thick enough for a bowl.
Jonny said it was better than ice cream. (I added that it was way healthier.) I have a feeling these types of bowls will be making a frequent appearance come these hot summer months in St. Louis.
What’s your favorite smoothie/bowl combo?

I sometimes combine some milk, vanilla stevia & carob gum and put it in the freezer for an hour or so… Stir it well in the end and have some super creamy “ice cream”
carob gum? what’s that?
Mmm…good idea! I haven’t tried anything like this, but it’s an excellent idea!!
so many different combos to do, too!
What whey protein powder do you use? I’m looking for a good whey isolate and need recommendations!
i use gnc pro performance.. i really like all the flavors i have tried so far!
WOW. YUMM! I love strawbs or berries with choc chips too. YUMMY. I’ve never thought to put chia in a smoothie though?! Awesome idea.
it really thickens it up! i used to put xanthem gum in them but now i don’t need to with chia seeds!
ooh yum! my mom isn’t a fan of the berry + chocolate combo, but i love it
this morning i had a chocolate covered apple! random but so good, as well! i think any fruit + chocolate is tasty!
Oh wow, this looks fantastic! Sadly, I’ve never even HEARD of frozen custard before! Is it kind of like melted ice cream?
hmmm i wonder if it’s a st louis thing?? i know st louis has SEVERAL places that serve custard… it’s like really thick ice cream!
